Welcome to this folio, a learning space that explores ocean plastic pollution through environmental awareness, creative inquiry, and primary education. The folio brings together perspectives from the humanities and social sciences, visual arts, and classroom practice to consider how environmental issues can be explored meaningfully with young learners. Through artistic interpretation, creative response, and curriculum-connected learning experiences, the folio develops a Year 5 learning sequence that encourages students to engage with sustainability, think critically about human relationships with the environment, and consider their role in caring for the natural world.

Big Idea: An estimated eight million tonnes of plastic enter the world's oceans every year. Because plastic is one of the most familiar materials in a child's daily life (lunchboxes, toys, packaging), it offers an unusually accessible entry point into a global environmental crisis that can otherwise feel too abstract or distant for young learners to grasp.
